For several years, I photographed children who were receiving care through the Valerie Fund Children's Centers for Cancer and Blood Disorders. These images of children with their families and caretakers were taken at St. Barnabas Medical Center, Morristown Memorial Medical Center and Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. A portfolio of a number of excerpts from this project was awarded a 2011 Clarion Award for "Feature Photography" by the national organization Women in Communications.
This volunteer work was done through Flashes of Hope, a national non-profit organization that works to positively effect the self-image of children with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.
